🧚 Who are the Radical Faeries?
A group of queer pagans getting together co-creating a space of living radically and alternatively together. You can find out more about the Faeries here
🏰 Where does the Gathering take place?
The Gathering is held at Featherstone Castle. Featherstone lies in the magical Northumberland countryside, close to Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish border. The Castle is a stone’s throw from Haltwhistle, the geographical center of Albion. Information on how to get to the castle can be found here.
The Castle is owned by an elderly gentleman who welcomes faerie culture, but is not a Faerie himself. The castle is next to a river and there are dirt paths that lead into the surrounding countryside and forests. The Castle is a local landmark. Be aware that walkers and tourists who are not part of the community might pass by.
🥁 Noise
- The castle typically hosts larger gatherings (between 70 and 120 Faeries). At times this can make busy communal spaces noisy and hectic. This can be overwhelming for some Fae.
- The busiest period of the gathering is usually over the weekend, with the quieter parts of the gathering during the week.
- If you find noise overstimulating, consider bringing ear-plugs, noise-cancelling headphones or taking regular time out from the castle to enjoy the peace of the surrounding grounds
🛏 Accommodation & Bedding
- Accommodation is generally in shared rooms (with a very limited number of single rooms for those who cannot sleep in shared spaces).
- Bedding, sheets and pillows are not provided, so remember to bring your own!
- The Gathering Team will attempt to place Fae who request it into smaller, quieter rooms, but this is a difficult task and is not guaranteed. You should expect to sleep with some element of noise.
- Camper vans or camping (during warmer months) are welcome, and are a good option for those needing greater personal space or a quieter place to sleep.
🌡 Temperature
- The Castle is an old and drafty building with an antiquated heating system. This means bedrooms, hallways and larger rooms can get chilly. It is recommended to bring warm clothes.
- The main rooms have fireplaces that are kept burning every day by the team of Woodpigs.
- Bringing a warm sleeping bag, hot water bottle, or electric heater is recommended in the colder months. If you can bring a spare heater or hot water bottle, this is always appreciated!
🍷 Sobriety and intoxicants
- Faeries at the castle are invited to be mindful about intoxicants, and respect that these can be a trigger for many Faeries - particularly sober Fae, or those in recovery. It is suggested that Faeries keep alcohol out of sight by drinking from cups or mugs (rather than glasses, cans or bottles) and remain aware of their behavior if intoxicated. Please do not offer intoxicants to any Faerie who has not asked you for them.
